Two-panel paired folding screens: Red and White Plum Blossoms 【Free Shipping】

The product is a replication of Red and White Plum Blossoms by Ogata Kōrin, a prolific and renowned artist of the Edo period. The contrasts in Ogata Kōrin's most notable masterpiece are absolutely sublime. The light and dark are depicted by the gold leaf and flowing waters, and movement and stillness are symbolized by the red and white plum blossoms. The flowing water, which can be said to be the most remarkable detail of the artwork, is depicted using silver leaf and oxidized silver leaf, which are said to have been used at the time. Although there are various theories about how Ogata Kōrin actually illustrated the flowing water, Kōrin's artistic style has been reproduced as accurately as possible.

Although there are various theories about how Ogata Kōrin actually illustrated the flowing water, silver leaf and silver sulfide have been detected in the flowing water and the black sections respectively. Therefore, it is said that he added silver leaf and then covered the area with sulfur powder to create the black shade. Hakuichi incorporates modern techniques and the finest craftsmanship to portray the flowing water (Kōrin Wave), so that Kōrin's artistic style could be expressed as accurately as possible.

As for the plum blossoms in the original artwork, the gold leaf used for the background can be faintly seen through the translucent tree trunk, as they are drawn using an ink stick and mineral pigments.
To replicate the artistic style as accurately as possible, we have created the trunk with gold leaf in a way that makes it translucent, while the moss is illustrated using a pigment called verdigris. The petals of the plum blossoms of contrasting colors are depicted in a special style; the edges of the petals are not drawn using lines. Instead, the style is a magnificent reproduction of the technique in the original Red and White Plum Blossoms by Kōrin, in which the petals are created by layers of pigment.
