Soma no Furudairi

The story of Soma no Furudairi and Takiyasha-hime: The mansion built in Shimousa Province by Taira no Masakado, also known as Soma Kojirō, was abandoned after Masakado’s rebellion. His orphaned children, Takiyasha-hime and Yoshikado, gained magical powers and gathered allies in this mansion to carry on their father’s will. Soon, monsters began to appear, prompting Ōya Tarō Mitsukuni, a retainer of Minamoto no Yoriyoshi, to lead an expedition to defeat them and thwart the conspiracy.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797–1861)

A Ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period. He gained popularity with works such as “The One Hundred and Eight Heroes of the Popular Water Margin” and was known as “Kuniyoshi of the Warrior Prints.” He worked widely in actor prints, portraits of beauties, landscapes, and caricatures. His dynamic compositions and humorous style made him beloved by common people.
