[Boys’ Day Dolls]
This traditional Boys’ Day kimekomi doll*1 has a gentle face yet bravely rides on a carp streamer*2, magnificently “swimming” in the sky against the background of a traditional landscape depicted on a screen. The two-panel folding screen is a tame-urushi (maroon urushi) lacquerware featuring a landscape crafted by the gold leaf elevating technique.
*1 Kimekomi dolls: Wooden dolls dressed with fabric that is inserted into grooves carved on the doll body.
*2 Carp streamers: Carp-shaped windsocks flown to celebrate Boys’ Day.
The secret of the intricate beauty of this exquisite decoration lies in our original HAKU-NUNO fabric that fully brings out the luster and suppleness of Kanazawa gold leaf. HAKU-NUNO features a deep, lustrous shine unique to Kanazawa gold leaf, something dyed fabrics like chirimen and kofu could never express.
After the Boys’ Day season, the decoration stand can also be used as a storage box for putting away the doll and the folding screen.
Materials: Pure silk, wood, genuine gold leaf, urushi lacquer
