Two-panel paired folding screens: The Old Plum 【Free Shipping】

These are symmetrical pairs of two-panel folding screens depicting an old plum tree.

The background is made of blue metal leaf. We have used our original color-changing techniques on the Kanazawa gold leaf. A luscious gradation of colors, ranging from reddish blue to a deep blue adds depth to the illustration. The metal leaf has been pressed onto the paper using a technique called urabaku. For urabaku, silk is added on top of the metal leaf, which has been pasted onto a base made of torinokogami washi paper.

The scattered gold leaves against the blue background make the blossoms look like they are emitting light or reflecting the moonlight in the darkness of the clouds. The fragrance of the plum tree is magically depicted through the radiance of the gold leaves. The gold leaves are dispersed elaborately to create balance.

We have covered the plum tree's trunk with Kanazawa gold leaf to give it energy and a three-dimensional feel. A special technique has been used to transform the metal leaf into the color of the old plum. The white plum is illustrated as simply as possible. By omitting to drawn detailed lines for the petals, the plum is given a symbolic role in the artpiece.

Handling Instructions

- Best to avoid direct sunlight for display/storage, or colors may fade or change.

- Use the enclosed gloves when you display the product.

- Display/storage in conditions of high ambient temperature/humidity and that of extremely low ambient humidity may damage the product.

- Do not touch the product with wet hands.

- The base structure is made of paper. Handle carefully to avoid breakage.
