Gold Leaf Sake Cup "Suigetsu" -Kaori Sakazuki-【Free Shipping】

[Sake Cup Infused with the Beauty of Hokuriku]

A collaboration with Echizen ware, a traditional craft from Fukui Prefecture.
This exceptional piece features an ultra-thin lip—less than 1 millimeter thick—crafted entirely by hand using only the artisan's fingers, without trimming after wheel throwing, a feat once thought impossible in ceramics.

To preserve the natural texture of the materials, genuine gold leaf is applied using lacquer as an adhesive. No topcoat is used, allowing the refined brilliance of the gold leaf to shine through to its fullest.

-Kaori Sakazuki-

A sake cup designed to fully enjoy the aroma of Japanese sake.

With a gently narrowing mouth, this cup is shaped to trap the sake’s aroma within its bowl—much like a wine glass.
As you slowly tilt it to your lips, the fragrant bouquet of the sake gently rises, allowing you to savor every nuance.
It is the perfect vessel for fruity ginjo-style sake.

The delicate and smooth rim enhances the drinking experience, while the brilliance of genuine gold leaf adds elegance.
Like scooping the reflection of the moon from the water’s surface, this cup invites you to indulge in moments of serene delight.

Over time, as you use it, the gold leaf gently conforms to the contours of the cup, gradually softening and fading in a way that enriches its character—turning it into a truly personal vessel.
Enjoy the changing beauty through the years, and the exquisite pairing of sake and its vessel will elevate your private moments to pure indulgence.

The cup comes in a custom wooden box, making it a perfect gift for sake lovers or a special present for someone dear.

Sakeware Fusing the Beauty of Hokuriku
Echizen ware boasts a long and storied history dating back to the Heian period. It is recognized as one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns (Nihon Rokkoyō), alongside other renowned ceramic traditions such as Bizen, Seto, and Shigaraki. This historic region is known for its iron-rich clay, which produces a deep, subdued black hue when fired. At HAKUICHI, we have partnered with a kiln specializing in usuzukuri—ultra-thin pottery made possible by the clay’s natural plasticity—to develop sake cups that offer an exceptionally refined mouthfeel. This collaboration gave birth to the Suigetsu series. The rim of each cup is crafted to be approximately 1 mm thick. Achieving this paper-like thinness and remarkable lightness required both technical innovation and masterful craftsmanship—redefining what is possible in the world of ceramics.

Gold Leaf Detailing with a Commitment to Natural Materials
The Suigetsu series is a bold fusion of Echizen ware and genuine gold leaf, creating a striking yet refined work of craftsmanship. It features the highest-grade No. 4 gold leaf—the same quality used in the restoration of cultural heritage assets. To preserve the natural luster of the gold, no protective coating is applied. As a result, the gold leaf will gradually wear with use. While restoration is possible, we encourage you to embrace this aging process as part of the vessel’s evolving beauty—just as one might with antiques or cultural artifacts. We also take safety seriously. Only edible-grade gold leaf and natural lacquer are used, ensuring the cup is both elegant and safe for everyday use.

Incorporating the Philosophy of Wine Glass Design
In wine culture, different glass shapes are used to enhance the characteristics of each grape variety—a thoughtful approach to pairing glassware with the beverage to elevate the tasting experience. Inspired by this concept, we carefully considered every aspect of the cup’s design, including the narrowing of the rim, the shape of the base, and the overall proportions. This sake cup is not only beautiful, but also functional—crafted to bring out the full flavor and aroma of Japanese sake, offering a more refined and enjoyable drinking experience.

Perfect for Gifting
The piece is elegantly presented in a custom-made wooden box, making it an ideal gift for sake enthusiasts or as a special present for men.
