In addition, all products of our Kanazawa Gold Leaf Folding Fan series are entirely made of Japanese paper and fan frames produced in Japan. Each folding fan speaks of the sound quality of Japanese products and the superb skills of folding fan artisans and gold/silver leaf artisans.
Each folding fan is decorated by the dosa adhesion technique using a special adhesive called nikawa (animal glue).
When creating folding fans with designs using large pieces of gold/silver leaf, it is very difficult to employ this traditional production method. Our recently launched Kanazawa Gold Leaf Folding Fan is a completely new folding fan simultaneously featuring modern gold/silver leaf designs and traditional techniques. As gold/silver leaf is attached by hand, each and every fan has a unique, one-of-a-kind design.
Each fan comes in a paulownia gift box. This product is perfect not only as a specially selected item to keep for yourself but also as a gift for someone special.

- About kanazawa gold leaf Discoloration - This product features "Color leaf" a type of kanazawa gold. As this kanazawa gold is designed to make use of the natural tendency of metal to change color over time, its appearance may vary depending on storage conditions. We hope you will appreciate this as a natural characteristic of the metal and enjoy the unique patina that develops with time.
- Caution for Storage - The strip of Japanese paper used to keep a folding fan closed at the time of purchase is called a semegami. The semegami is important for properly storing the fan, as it helps prevent it from losing its shape through regular use. To keep your fan in good condition for a long time, avoid high temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight, and be sure to store it with the semegami in place.
A high-quality folding fan undergoes a process called "tameru" (bending), in which heat is applied to the end ribs (fan bones) to curve them inward, making the fan easier to close and giving it a better fit. As a result of this process, you may notice slight creases or dents—known as "tamejiwa" or "ekubo"—on the inner side of the end ribs. These are characteristic of hand-finished fans made from natural materials such as Japanese paper and bamboo. We appreciate your understanding.
